Parking Revenue Shifts Into High Gear

The city of San Francisco has turned parking, and parking citations, into big business for the city’s coffers. Over the last four years alone, parking meter revenue has increased by about $9 million and parking ticket revenue has gone up over $3 million. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency collected $38.4 million from parking meters and $28.9 million in parking ticket fines. Additionally, parking meter rates and penalties have continued to rise, with the latest up-tick of 50 cents in July 2009. A new plan, called “SFPark,” which will include more parking metered spaces as well as payment options for drivers is expected to generate at least $6.5 million in additional revenue per year for the city.

Barely Blocked a Driveway – San Francisco

I live in inner sunset… I park on a teeny piece of concret and the rear of my car extends into the driveway, where my house mate parks his clunker. It blocks his car in the driveway, but he knows… doesn’t care, and the car doesn’t run. I got a ticket in that part… and I was under the impression you won’t get ticketed in front of private property…. as if you were actually parked in the driveway. As long as no one complains, you are good.
