Red Light Camera – Right Turn (Horror Story)

July 11, 2010 by DesertGirl · 200 Comments

I was on my way to work at 515am last week and got a ticket for not coming to a complete stop before making a right turn. There were no cars around and I came as close to making a complete stop as you possibly can without actually stopping. I do not understand how the city can gouge its citizens like this. Is this really the spirit of the law?

In response to an Arizona immigration law, the Seattle City Council passed a boycott measure, requesting that city agencies “refrain from traveling to Arizona or awarding contacts to companies” based in the state. There are 106 red-light cameras in the state of Washington, including 29 in Seattle.

Drunk Driver Services Let You Keep Your Car, But Not Your Cash

Phoenix companies are taking advantage of drunk people who don’t want to drive, but also don’t want to leave their car at the establishment they’re stuck at. Designated Drivers, Inc, Last Call Drivers, The Drunk Drivers, and Zingo will all come pick you up and transport your car home in way or another. Some drive your car back to your house for you, and then have an associate bring them back to the office, while others travel to you on a motorbike which they will stash in your trunk and eventually take back to their office. Either way, it’s capitalism at its finest.

Redflex Traffic Systems, the number one speed camera operator in the United States, reported a 32% plunge in its profits during the first half of the 2010 fiscal year. The company stated “rising public discontent” as the primary reason for the profit fall. While explaining an $8 million lost to Australian shareholders the company released the following statement: “The business, particularly in the U.S., has become more difficult over recent years, and the results reflect the influence of a range of adverse issues and circumstances on the business, including… the rise of opposition from various groups opposed to photo enforcement, resulting in challenges to programs through citizen initiated referenda.”
