Redlight Camera Ban Petition Certified

Houston’s city secretary has certified a petition to ban red light cameras in the city, paving the way for the issue to be put in front of voters, come November. “This is a great day for Houston. People just need a right to vote, that’s all we’re saying. Now the citizens will have a chance to decide,” said Michael Kubosh, one of the brothers who lead the petition effort. Jim McGrath, a spokesman for Keep Houston Safe (a political action committee funded, in part, by American Traffic Solutions – the private company which operates the red light camera program) claims the petition is illegal. He is also quick to point out that Paul Kubosh, another brother behind the petition effort, is a traffic ticket attorney and has a business interest in the outcome of the election. The City Council is scheduled to vote on the petition today.
