City officials in Park Ridge seem to be enjoying the red light cameras they’ve implemented in the city, especially the one located at the corner of Northwest Highway and Oakton. That intersection has produced 224 tickets in only two months – with 205 of those citations being for making a right-hand turn on a red light before coming to a complete stop. Not surprisingly, the city is now considering adding 4 more red light cameras to its land.

More Suburbs Say No to Cook County’s Red-Light Cameras

Two more municipalities have taken Cook County officials up on their offer to allow them to opt-out of the red-light camera program. Village trustees in both Schaumburg and Palatine have unanimously voted not to participate in the photo-enforcement endeavor. “We feel that because we have primary jurisdiction over that intersection and there really isn’t a lot that the county provides us with regards to that intersection. Should there be an accident there or any type of incident, it’s our resources that are going to be tapped and first responders to those intersections.” The red-light camera program was expected to generate more than $2 million in revenue for the county, however, after several municipalities have already opted out, that number could significantly decrease.
