Luxury Drivers Feel Ticket Pressure
August 5, 2010 by Rocky · 12 Comments
According to a survey conducted by LeaseTrader.com, people’s opinions on the likelihood of receiving a traffic or parking ticket is affected by the type of vehicle that they drive. The website polled 2,000 drivers, focusing on four different types of automobiles: Economy, Midsize, SUV/truck, and Luxury. In all, luxury drivers seem to feel that they get away with the least. They were most likely to assume they’d get a speeding ticket for traveling 10mph over the limit, followed by Midsize, Economy, and then SUV/truck drivers. They also believe they’re the most likely to be ticketed for running a red light, followed by SUV/truck, and Midsize. And when it comes to red-light cameras, luxury drivers feel that their cars “stand out” the most, increasing the odds of getting nailed. When it comes to parking tickets, however, luxury drivers feel the most safe, with SUV/truck drivers believing they’re the most likely to get a parking citation. Whatever.
8,911 Cited So Far For Breaking City’s Cell-Phone Ordinance

Over the first six months of Philadelphia’s ban on handheld cell-phone use while driving, the city has issued 8,911 “violation notices.” (The citations are referred to as “violation notices” and not tickets, because they’re enforced by a city ordinance and not the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code.) And while Philadelphia isn’t the only municipality to pass such ordinances, they are, by far, the most vigilant. Philadelphia has issued more violation notices than Camden, Burlington, and Gloucester counties combined, compared to other six-month periods. However, despite the large number of notices issued, the city is finding it increasingly difficult to get drivers to pay their $75 fines. By mid-May, only 3,713 of the 6,415 citations had been paid.

Two Philadelphia men, in their 20s, have received DWI’s in connection with an incident involving a truck and snowmobile. Apparently, the two men were driving in a truck, with a snowmobile in the back, when the driver crashed into a ditch, throwing the snowmobile from the truck. The driver then drove the snowmobile to the parking lot of a Walmart, while the passenger drove the truck to the same location. While unsuccessfully trying to load the snowmobile back into the truck a trooper who had received a witness account of the entire thing, cited both men for DWI – as they each recorded a BAC above the legal limit.
