Red Light Camera Company Spends $230,648 to Fight Public Vote

In order to stop grassroots organizations from putting the issue of photo-enforcement up to a vote on the November ballot, American Traffic Solutions (ATS) has spent over $230,000 to counter the effort. Most of the money has gone to consultants and attorneys, and all of the money has come from private companies attached to the cameras. Those companies include Signal Electric, a Washington-based contractor that installs red light cameras, Horsepower Electric, a Florida-based installation company, Red Light Design of Missouri, and so on. Not one penny came from ordinary citizens. Baytown, TX, has seen a similar counter-effort, albeit on a smaller scale. Eventually, both sides plan to focus on the court-system to issue a final say on the matter.
