Parking Meter Violations

January 9, 2005 by todd · 7 Comments

Parking meter violations in Austin are often unfair, as many meters don’t function properly.  If you receive a citation for a parking meter violation, make sure you check the meter.  If it’s flashing “FAIL,” call the number posted on the meter to report the problem.

I got a ticket for a meter violation while on vacation in Austin. I was parked on 6th St, Near Brazos. I am POSITIVE that the meter wasn’t working when I parked my car, so I left a note on the windshield just in case. Lot of good it did me! Completely unfair!

That happens more than you’d think around here. Gotta be careful because the parking enforcement officers are extremely aggressive.

They’re not supposed to write tickets if the meter isn’t working, but of course they do so anyway. All they have to say is that it seemed to be functioning properly when they wrote the ticket. Obviously, BS, but not much you can do.
