Parking Too Close to a Fire Hydrant

If ticketed for parking too close to a fire hydrant, taking pictures of the scene is a good idea. If you happen to have a tape measure, ask a witness to assist you in measuring the distance and, if possible, ask for their contact information.

I got one of these and thankfully beat it. The officer wrote on the ticket that I was 6 ft from the hydrant which was RIDICULOUS. However, I had some good luck. When I got to my car, there was another officer standing near my car. Since he knew I hadn’t moved my car since getting the ticket, he actually took a picture with me, showing how far the car was from the hydrant and telling me he would testify if necessary at traffic court. At least there’s one honest cop in Columbus!
