If ticketed for failing to register or display tags, make sure that your up-to-date tags weren’t stolen off of your vehicle, as they often are. If that’s the case, contact the court and ask them how to proceed.

I got a ticket for no registration tags. My truck was parked in front of my house. I had already paid the reg but had to get it smogged but blah, blah, blah. Fast forward, I get the smog check, pass, go to submit my paperwork to contest the citation and low and behold, the two city “employees” behind the bullet proof glass were rude and completely unhelpful. I think they felt I was bugging them making them work. She wouldn’t even make eye contact, spoke away from the slits in the glass so I had to keep asking her “What?”. These two are the types that give credibility to the stereotype of government employees: lazy, ignorant fools. I made sure I got a receipt because I just have a bad feeling that this paperwork is going to get “lost”.
