Permit Parking Only

If ticketed for parking in a Permit-Only Zone, make sure that the sign is clearly visible. If it isn’t, take a picture of it and bring it with you if you contest the citation.

Sometimes I wonder if the city of Oakland just wants everyone to pack up and leave. First they kill us with the parking tickets which hadn’t been enforced for years. Then we learn that the City Council had selectively picked which neighborhoods (poor) would be targeted and which ones would be left alone (rich). Then I get a ticket recently for failing to display a parking permit. Once again, this hadn’t been enforced for years. One side of the street, you always need a permit, and on the other side you need a permit if you’re parked for more than a couple hours. I had never receieved a ticket for not having a permit displayed on the two-hour side. Until last week. Wonderful.
