Unpaid Tickets for Parking in Phoenix Pile Up for Rental-Car Companies
April 20, 2011 by Skater1010 · 5 Comments
In these tough economic times, the city of Phoenix is attempting to collect on unpaid parking tickets to help with its budget woes. In its effort to do so, it has compiled a “boot-and-tow” list which includes any car with at least three unpaid parking tickets, and makes that vehicle eligible to be towed by the city. And on that list, are multiple cars owned by rental car companies who owe the city almost $100,000 in unpaid parking fines. This, of course, could leave tourists in the middle. As officers are required to tow any car with at least three unpaid tickets, a traveler could leave a venue and find his rental car has been towed – by no fault of his own. And with the city using new license-plate-reading cameras, which scan thousands of plates per day for parking-ticket scofflaws, this is becoming increasingly plausible.
