Parking Meter Violations

Parking meter violations are often unfair, as many meters don’t function properly. If you receive a citation for a parking meter violation, make sure you check the meter. If it’s flashing “FAIL,” call the number posted on the meter to report the problem.

I went to a wedding last night in downtown Portland. I paid at the kiosk and left the receipt on my dashboard. But upon returning just a half-hour later I found a ticket on my car. Apparently I had parked in a loading zone. It’s a $60 ticket. Is this like a speeding ticket where I might be able to get it reduced or am I going to have to pay the full fine? The sign next to my car was a little confusing when I took a second look, at first showing the two-hour parking but also the loading zone signs. Otherwise it’s been a great first week in Portland.
